In December 2007, Lonna had hysterectomy and shortly afterward became ill with what the doctors believe was pneumonia and then MAC disease. With further tissue samples and testing she was diagnosed on May 9th with lung cancer. Three days later, she was admitted into the hospital with stage 4 Malignant Adeno Carcinoma. The doctors feel that chemotherapy is the only way to slow down this aggressive, fast-growing cancer.

The family is still holding on to the fact that there are miracles that happen every day. We are all fervently praying that Lonna Dee Keeth will be God's next miracle. This cancer has gripped her so unbelievably fast. On May 14th, the doctor put a medaport in Lonna's chest for her impending chemo therapy treatment. They no longer got Lonna out of surgery before the doctors wheeled her right back in for emergency surgery. Her lungs and her heart had life threatening fluid build up that had to be removed. On May 15th and 16th she layed in ICU starting to recover. At 10pm on the May 16th she had her first dose of chemo.

Today, May 17th, is a new day and we still have Lonna with us. Lonna is going to fight! Please fight with us! We need more angels like Lonna to continue walking amongst us. Lonna has a 12 year daughter named Halle Keeth, she is so beautiful just like her mother. Some of you might remember her from our inflight training video, she was the little unaccompanied minor that looked up at the flight attendant and had that one line, (don't talk to my mom that way), but she did say it perfectly. Most of Lonna's family are Continental employees in one facet or another. Her mother, Sandra Hayes, is a HTA flight attendant and her stepfather Dennis Baraga (Buzz) is in reservations. Lonna's Aunt Janet Shelton is a flight attendant and her Uncle Rob Shelton is a pilot.

From the beginning Continental Airlines has been so supportive to our entire family, we will forever be so grateful for all their kindness. Lonna has so many dear friends who are praying for her, loving her, and missing her. The family is asking all of you to please hold Lonnna Dee Keeth up in your prayers. People all over the world are praying for Lonna right now please join us in our prayers. Through this blog we will try to keep everyone updated frequently as we all go through this uncharted journey.

Update 8/28/08 Thursday

My sister was admitted yesterday back into the hospital. She has been having severe stomach pain. Lonna has also been experiencing her nausea and not being able to eat much of anything. At my house she probably had 2 good days out of 7. Anyway, now the news as to why her condition. She was diagnosed as having pancratitis and Cancer has also moved as a lesion to her liver. She is getting I.V. of parental nutrition and Zofran for the nausea and and something for the pancreas.

The plan is still to take her to Mexico for alternative treatment which we feel is her best hope. My mom will fly with her on a flight which is about an hour and a half and Dennis will drive 5 hrs with a car, so my mom and Lonna can have transportation for the month. As soon as my sister is released from the hospital they will make the trip. Please keep her in your prayers.
Love Vicky

Tuesday, August 26

Today is Tuesday and I'm writing about my sister Lonna.

On Saturday she was to sick to fly so we had to change her ticket to fly out on Sunday. They were flying United because Continental does not fly to Boise Idaho. United airlines charged my sister an extra $600. dollars to change the tickets which was less then 24hrs. I have been on the phone for over an hour and they absolutely refused to make any waiver change fee's for a person who is to sick to fly. I'm letting you all know this because when you go to fly United think about how they treat sick people and try and fly another carrier.

My sister is not doing that well. My mom has decided to take my sister early to Mexico for treatment. They are leaving tomorrow. Please say your prayers for the both of them.

Making some more great memories with our Dear Lonna. We had a great time on Vicky's hot ski boat. I tried to wake board, to no avail... Sara and Vicky made it look so easy. I only managed to drink a few gallons of lake water ...But we all had such a nice time just being up on the lake, and in the sunshine. Lonna arrived back in Houston Sunday afternoon. Halle has to start school on Monday morning. She is very excited, and it sounds like she will be one busy young lady. Now that I am officially retired I hope to spend more time with them both... Saturday, August 23

Well, here it is time to go home already. Lonna had a couple of glorious days at the lake watching Sarah on her wake board and having her tuna fish sandwiches with sweet pickles. She has been pretty under the weather the last 3 days. We managed to get her up for a little while last night for 4th of the July fire works in the back yard, thanks to Russ a friend who use to live next to Vicky. We had the whole works with sky rockets and police who came to check it out. They were very nice however.

We leave shortly for the airport and will update in a couple of days. Halle starts to school on Monday.

Sunday Aug 17

Hi there,
We arrived in Boise Last night about 11:30 pm. We barely made the connection in Denver, but they held the plane and we made the mad dash. Halle was running ahead yelling, hurry, hurry. Poor Lonna was going just as fast as her little legs would carry her and we just made it. Surprisingly, so did our luggage!!!

Halle was off to the Idaho state fair today with some friends. This is her last hurrah before school starts. She will have a very full schedule this year with Drill Team and Theater as well as her regular studies. It's very Hot here and we just laid low here at the house. We did venture out to take Grandma Polly to lunch. My father, Grandpa Don will arrive tomorrow and Janet gets here on Tuesday.

We are going to try to go to the lake tomorrow. Lonna's wish, to sit on the dock and eat Tuna fish sandwiches and sweet pickles is about to come true. Thanks so much for your continued support and prayers.

Saturday, August 16

Lonna has been doing much better since her blood transfusions. We are leaving today to go to Boise to spend a few days with Vicky. At the end of the month we are going to Del Rio, TX, where she will undergo alternative treatment at a small clinic across the Mexican Border. We will be there a minimum of 4 weeks. Lonna's Dr. here has agreed to follow her progress and monitor her blood work. She will also be taking an oral form of Chemo during the treatments there. I will try to update as we go thru the coming weeks.

Tuesday August 5

Thanks so much to all of you who are helping with the research for Lonna. There is so much information out there and it becomes a little confusing as to which direction to proceed.

Have any of you heard of a treatment that involves radio waves?
A friend with stage 4 cancer has gone to Australia for this treatment.

Lonna has not been doing well. She is so sick so much of the time and her hgb is quite low. Tomorrow she is suppose to have a transfusion, so I'm hoping that will give her a much needed boost.

Till later
Sandy
